jq fits repeatable terminal work: pretty-printing command output, selecting fields, reshaping arrays and making a JSON result control a script through exit status. It is free, open-source software under the MIT license.
It is not a visual editor or a JSON Schema validator. In our jq 1.7 test, duplicate object keys were silently collapsed and arithmetic on a large integer lost precision.
