To send a collaborator a readable preview of one Excalidraw storyboard note, select that note before copying the PNG. This procedure was tested with a three-line text object in the public web app on desktop Chrome on October 13, 2026. It produces a preview image; it does not replace an editable scene backup.
Finish the wording first
Use the Text tool to enter a short note. Our test contained these lines:

Close: keep an editable copySwitch to Selection and click the text object. To change the words, press Enter or double-click to enter text editing. Finish with Esc or Ctrl+Enter, as the app’s hint shows. To change the style, use Font family in the selected-shape panel. We changed our note from Hand-drawn to Normal and confirmed the revised closing line on the canvas.
Check the actual words before output. A visible selection box only confirms an object is selected; it does not prove the content has been corrected. Our test review shows the final canvas and the scope of the hands-on checks.
Set the output scope explicitly
Open the main menu and choose Export image, or use Ctrl+Shift+E. In our selected-note test, Only selected was enabled. Leave it enabled if the preview should contain just that object. If your scene contains other objects you want to deliver, check the preview and your selection before copying; this tutorial did not test a multi-object scene.
We used Background on, Dark mode off and scale 1×. The panel also displayed Embed scene, which we left off. Do not interpret a PNG copied with that setting off as a verified editable drawing. The live preview should contain all three lines with no unwanted surrounding content.
Copy, then inspect the image
Click Copy to clipboard. Our test returned an image/png clipboard item. The saved test output contains the revised note. Paste your copied image into the recipient application and inspect its words, background and crop before sending it. We verified the PNG bytes, not every application’s paste support.
In this test browser, Export to PNG failed with a showSaveFilePicker permission error. Copying to the clipboard worked separately. If either route fails in your browser, confirm whether an actual image was produced; do not treat the presence of an export button as delivery success.
Keep the editable drawing separately
The official project documents a .excalidraw JSON drawing format. Save and reopen the editable scene when you need future revisions. That file round trip was not verified in our restricted test browser. A note surviving one reload, which ours did, is a smaller check than a recoverable backup or transfer to another device.
