For creators planning a sequence
Excalidraw is a free, open-source whiteboard project with a hand-drawn style. Its official repository lists shapes, image support, PNG/SVG/clipboard exports and an open .excalidraw JSON drawing format. Those documented features extend beyond our small hands-on test.
What we actually checked
Our October 13, 2026 public-web-app test created a three-line storyboard note, switched it to Normal font, revised its closing instruction and confirmed that it remained after one reload. Copy PNG to clipboard returned a real image. Export to PNG was blocked by a file-picker permission error in the test browser; that is not a universal export failure.
Limits before handoff
Keep a preview image separate from the editable scene. We did not test an editable file save-and-reopen round trip, multi-device persistence, collaboration, mobile use or Excalidraw+ plans. One successful reload is not a backup guarantee. Check storage and output permissions in the browser you use for delivery.
