For a portable creator or developer note
StackEdit is a browser Markdown editor for people who want plain-text source and a rendered preview at the same time. The official site documents live preview, scroll synchronization, GFM and CommonMark support, offline editing, and optional connections to Google Drive, Dropbox and GitHub. Those are provider-documented capabilities; our hands-on coverage is narrower.
What we actually checked
Our October 14, 2026 no-login web-app test created a fictional release checklist with a heading, tasks, a deadline, a table and bold text. The note remained after one ordinary reload. Export as Markdown produced a 270-byte file: a three-byte UTF-8 byte-order mark plus the 267-byte source payload.
A boundary test also showed why the preview needs inspection. An unescaped pipe inside dialogue caused the words after it to disappear from the expected table cell. Escaping the character as \| restored the complete line. Closing an unmatched code fence returned later content to normal rendering.
Limits before handoff
Browser persistence is not a backup. We did not verify cleared storage, cross-device recovery, mobile layout, large files, true offline behavior, collaboration, provider synchronization or input-bearing network requests. The official landing page’s Privacy Policy link returned an error page during our October 14 check, so this listing does not make a private-processing claim.
The official source repository’s activity view showed no recorded update after May 27, 2023 when checked. The live public editor completed our small task, but teams choosing a long-lived or sensitive workflow should assess maintenance and privacy requirements independently.
